Homemade Taco Seasoning

Never go back to the little paper envelope you pick up in the ethnic aisle at the grocery store. Ever. This recipe will make you a good sized batch of taco seasoning that you can use again and again…. for your ground beef, chicken, *insert other meats of choice* for tacos, steak, put it in your mashed potatoes, mac n cheese,  sour cream for a yummy chip dip, whatever you like.  **All spices added are dried, in case it is not noted.

5 tbsp cumin

4 tbsp chili powder

2 tbsp cilantro

2 1/2 tbsp kosher salt, fine grain

1 1/2 tbsp granulated garlic

1 tbsp dried minced onion

1 tbsp crushed red pepper

1 tbsp dried oregano

1 tbsp paprika

1 tbsp parsley

1 tbsp dried chives

1/2 tbsp fresh ground black pepper

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp cocoa powder

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

Mix all together well. Store in a dark air tight container. Sprinkle as desired over taco meat. If dry, add some chicken or beef broth (only a couple tablespoons at a time) or some tomato sauce works great too, to make your meat “saucy”.

**You may want to tweak for your likes on heat level and salt level. This recipe makes a pretty spicy blend and it is well seasoned with salt. If you don’t like salty, cut the salt in half or out completely and add salt to taste when you cook. If you don’t like spicy, start by adding about 1/4 of the crushed red pepper and possibly omit the cayenne.
